The existing extension to this Dublin city centre artisan house meant that the relationship between front lounge and rear kitchen negotiated two other rooms, losing the actual useful area of the small house to circulation. Our proposal eliminates circulation, with a direct route from front door to rear of the courtyard garden incorporating a storage wall of joinery, the stairs and kitchen/ utility areas. This subtle shift brings light and air to the main house and a direct glazed connection between kitchen/ dining/ study areas and garden. The church spire to the rear of the property in maintained as a focus in this sequence, by means of the view through a glazed strip in the timber roof structure.
